High winds Sunday and Monday spread the fires very very rapidly. And I mean really really high winds...
This is an image from Rancho Carillo near Carlsbad late Tuesday. I don't think there have ever been fire evacuations so close to the coast before.
The sunset was amazing on Tuesday night.

Images of the Harris Fire, burning in Jamul, approaching Otay Lakes. This is the fire that was bearing down on Bonita-Sweetwater where I live. Even though the winds had died down, and at times shifted back to the East, we were not completely out of danger yet... I believe these are from Tuesday night.
